Rhododendrol is a triterpenoid saponin that is found in the bark of the European White Birch (Betula pubescens). It has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against growth factor-induced proliferation in lymphocytes. Rhododendrol has also been shown to have an effect on immune reactions and skin models. This compound binds to homologous proteins, thereby inhibiting their biological effects. Rhododendrol has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis by binding to lipogenic enzymes such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase, fatty acid synthase, and malonyl-CoA decarboxylase.
