Description:

Norbormide is a drug that belongs to the group of pharmacological agents. It is a metabolic inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis and has been shown to have cardiac effects, such as an increase in the rate of cardiac contraction and a decrease in the rate of relaxation. Norbormide inhibits mitochondrial respiration by interacting with cytochrome c oxidase, preventing electron transfer from cytochrome c to oxygen. Norbormide also inhibits mitochondrial ATPase activity, leading to decreased availability of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Norbormide has been shown to inhibit uptake of fluorescent derivatives into mitochondria and intermolecular hydrogen bonding between norbormide and fluorescence probes. This inhibition may be due to its ability to form intramolecular hydrogen bonds with fatty acids.
