Description

4-Amino-2-(ethylthio)-5-(hydroxymethyl)pyrimidine is an analog of the purine base, adenine. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of ascites tumors in animals and to have significant growth inhibition against L1210 cells. 4-Amino-2-(ethylthio)-5-(hydroxymethyl)pyrimidine also inhibits bacterial growth, with significant growth inhibition against drug resistant strains. This substance has been shown to be statistically more effective than other homologs in inhibiting the growth of microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
