(1-Benzyl-2-mercapto-1H-imidazol-5-yl)methanol is an oxidase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in a bioassay. It is a molecule with a high yield and nonselective monoamine oxidase inhibitors. This drug inhibits oxidative deamination of monoamines, such as tyramine, dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. (1-Benzyl-2-mercapto-1H-imidazol-5-yl)methanol is used as a pharmaceutical for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, depression and other diseases involving monoamine neurotransmitters. This drug also has been shown to have antihypertensive effects.
