Description

1-Butyl-2,3-dimethyl-imidazoliumchloride (BDIMCl) is an ionic liquid that is composed of 1-butyl-2,3-dimethyl imidazolium cations and chloride anions. It has a melting point of -23.8°C and a boiling point of 114°C. BDIMCl has been shown to be a cationic surfactant with catalytic effect in reactions involving ethylene diamine and dodecylsulphate. The ionic liquid can be used as a fluorescence probe for chloride ions, giving it the potential to be applied in analytical chemistry, including microscopy. BDIMCl has also been used as mesoporous sorbents, which are materials that have pores with diameters between 2 and 50 nanometers.
