Cumyluron is a quinoline derivative that acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist. It is used to control the growth of perennial ryegrass and other plants. Cumyluron is applied to the soil or sprayed onto the plants. Cumyluron can be degraded by microorganisms in the soil, but it can also be degraded by photolysis in the presence of light. The chemical ionization mass spectrometry method can be used to determine how quickly cumyluron is eliminated from a plant or soil sample. Cumyluron was found to have a low toxicity for animals and humans.
