5'-Nucleotide phosphodiesterase substrate is a phosphatase enzyme substrate. It is a nucleophilic compound that reacts with the N-terminal amino group of proteins and peptides to form an ester linkage. This reaction is reversible, resulting in the release of phosphate ions and 5'-nucleotide. The enzyme 5'-nucleotide phosphodiesterase breaks down this linkage, releasing phosphate ions and 5'-nucleotidic acid. The enzyme acetylcholinesterase inhibits the activity of this enzyme by binding to it and preventing the release of phosphate ions from the substrate.
