Description

(-)-Nortrachelogenin is an enzyme inhibitor that is reactive with damaged cells and antibiotic-resistant strains. It has been shown to inhibit the replication of herpes simplex virus and has a cardiac glycoside activity. (-)-Nortrachelogenin also possesses hepatoprotective properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit potassium ion leakage from the cell membrane. The (-) enantiomer of nortrachelogenin has been shown to have higher biological activity than the (+) enantiomer.
