Description

Rubropunctatin is an inhibitor of mitochondrial membrane potential. It binds to hydrophobic regions on the surface of the mitochondria, where it inhibits enzymes in the electron transport chain. Rubropunctatin has been shown to inhibit polymerase chain reactions and cell lysis. This drug also has a high affinity for bacterial cells, which may be due to its ability to bind to the surface of these cells via steric interactions. Rubropunctatin is not active against wild-type strains or plants.
