(-)-Pinoresinol glucoside is a potent and selective activator of growth factor receptors, including the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). It has been shown to have a significant cytotoxicity on cell culture in vitro. The compound was also found to be a good matrix effect modifier in 2-D NMR experiments. (-)-Pinoresinol glucoside has been shown to exhibit chemopreventive and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as being involved in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Pharmacokinetic studies show that (-)-pinoresinol glucoside is absorbed rapidly from the gastrointestinal tract and excreted into bile. The compound is metabolized through phase I reactions involving oxidation and hydroxylation, with subsequent conjugation with glucuronic acid.
