Methyl 3-[(3-formylphenoxy)methyl]benzoate is an antibiotic that belongs to the class of natural products. It has been shown to be active against a range of infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, leprosy, and malaria. Methyl 3-[(3-formylphenoxy)methyl]benzoate inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA and preventing transcription and replication. The methyl group in this compound is responsible for its antibacterial activity. Methyl 3-[(3-formylphenoxy)methyl]benzoate also inhibits locomotor activity in mice in a dose-dependent manner. This drug has been shown to have cardiac effects, such as increasing the heart rate and decreasing the force of contraction, as well as acute toxicities such as respiratory paralysis at high doses. It has also been shown to be an inhibitor molecule for the protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A).
